Sultan Ahmed II (1643-1695) was the third son of Sultan Ibrahim and his mother was Hatice Muazzez Sultan, who was the 21st ruler of the Ottoman Empire and the 100th Islamic Caliph.
During his youth, he received a good education. He spent four years in the "kafes" system during the reign of his brother, Sultan Suleiman II.
At the age of 48, on June 21, 169, he ascended to the throne in Edirne and never set foot in Istanbul again until his passing. He left Fazıl Mustafa Pasha, his brother's vizier, as the Grand Vizier. However, things took a turn for the worse when Fazıl Mustafa Pasha tragically died in the Battle of Meydan, resulting in both a military loss and a great statesman being lost. This event marked the end of the Köprülü era, and the course of the Ottoman Empire took a somewhat unexpected turn.
During Sultan Ahmed II's reign, he dealt with conflicts following the Second Siege of Vienna. He greatly desired to reclaim the island of Chios, leading to the capture of some fortresses along the Dalmatian coast. Despite his strong desire to regain Chios, he passed away before seeing it accomplished. Throughout his brief four-year reign, he didn't achieve any notable successes. He was known for his interest in poetry and music, and he prioritized gatherings of the Imperial Council. He was a patriotic Sultan.
He was remembered as a benevolent ruler who would sometimes walk among the common people in disguise, knew Arabic and Persian, and was regarded as a good Sultan.
